Transponder Keys

Transponder keys or “Chip Keys” are keys containing a hidden computer chip in the plastic head of the key. Most people who call us because they have lost their car key are not aware that their vehicle even has a computer chip in it.

Automotive manufacturers use transponder keys as a form of anti-theft device. Vehicles using this system are comprised of several components starting with a computer chipped key. The programmed key sends a signal to a ring inside the ignition switch. From there the signal travels to the cars computer which receives the signal from the key that it is ok to let the motor start.
